  • How to Authorize Third-Party Plugins

Posted by Jason Jones on April 27, 2013 at 7:11 pm

After a system drive crash, I’m trying to rebuild several projects that have corrupt or missing files. I’ve reinstalled certain necessary plugins, like Twixtor Pro, but am not clear on how I authorize these plugs that are already in the AE project, but showing a Trial Use version.

    Help!

    Thanks ….

For some plugins you need to reenter the proper unlock code. Other companies have you reauthorize over the internet. Its best to check with the company to see what their procedure and policy is at their website.

    Hey Tom –

Yeah, Re: Vision asks you to enter registration data before it will install, or reinstall, the plug. No worries – did that.

This is an AE issue: how do I get rid of the crossed lines indicating a Demo version of the plug that is coming up in the project; in other words, how do I let AE know that this is an authorized plugin? Do I have to take the effect out, and then put it back in and reapply the settings or something?

    Thanks –

If you are using Ae CS6, it’s possible that the watermark has been rendered into the cache in a previous session before you authorized. Changing effect parameters would invalidate the cache and force a re-render, but authorizing the plugin would not, and Ae would have no idea that the cached frames are now wrong.

Try clearing the disk cache. Preferences > Media and Disk Cache > Empty Disk Cache.

Well, I was hopeful, but in this case … no dice! Didn’t remove the crossed lines or the Demo status.

    Good point Walter.

In my experience AE doenst really care about the status of your plugins. That is usually only something the plugins themselves are concerned about.

It’s the person with the comely tutorial voice!

Yes, thank you, Twixtor is now opening in AE. I simply had to do a restart of my system. Apparently.

    Cheers!
