  • How to apply levels video fx on a portion of video clip

    Hi,
I don’t want to apply the levels video fx applied on entire clip, but a portion of it. Kind of a gradient tool in Photoshop. In my video clip there is a singer in foreground, behind him there is orchestra. I want to brighten up only the singer. The guitarist, drummer and other other orchestra people are under spot light and they are getting “over exposed” and washed out when I apply over the entire clip.

There is a tutorial for exactly this on the VASST site.

Make a second copy of the event.
Apply a Bezier mask on the top layer set to pass only the singer.
Put the levels tool on the lower layer. Notice the changes as you adjust the levels tool.
You’ll prolly need to feather the bezier mask, so make it smaller than you intitially will feel it needs to be.

Deleted because I saw Spot’s reply and realized that I missed the point entirely.

If I read the OP correctly, he’s trying to section out part of the frame vs sectioning out part of the timeline. I may have misread it.

Thanks Douglas. Yes, I am trying to section out part of the frame itself, not timeline. I appreciate if you can point me to the tutorial on vasst.
