  • How to add something to a data track?

    Hello,

I have a transcript of a video that I turned into subtitles with timecodes that correspond to the original video. I have a .srt and .stl file that I can also convert to other file types.

What I would like to do is add those subtitles to the original video within Avid. Not by creating SubCap on a timeline but rather I would like the subtitles to be present within the source file itself. So that when I match-frame the clip on timeline, the source still contains those subtitles, while they are not burnt-in into video.

I was thinking whether it is possible to achieve that by somehow importing or embedding the subtitle file into source clip with the help of a data track?

Is it possible to add anything to a data track? In my case it would be amazing if I could somehow add the subtitle file (I can try converting to other formats) to a data track.

Is it even possible to add data tracks to sources and put something on them?

    Best regards,

    Juan

I have only used the data track for closed captioning. You can add a .scc file to the data track, export the show to a few file types…xdcam .mxf is a common one…and you will have embedded captions in your file…but if you bring that file back in, and add it to a timeline, it will retain the data track, but if you start editing with it, the data will break.

You can’t..AFAIK, match frame a timeline clip to try to maintain the data track attached to that timeline.

We used to be able to use a hardware symphony box to edit the caption files to a small degree in the timeline, but that was all based around hardware and a tape workflow.

I don’t think what you are describing can be achieved.
