  • How to add fades and dissolves to a Quicktime

One of the most annoying things about FCP is the clunky way it handles dissoves and fades on the timeline. Rather than having X-tracks they have this bizarre thing where you add them from a drop down box or keyboard shortcut and then have to fart around with more controls to adjust them. Anyway. Could somebody explain why I can’t add fades and dissolves to the Quicktime movies I make, usually of some EFX so as not to get the timelne too cluttered. Is there a way around this? It does make the dissolve but it’s like 2 frames long…so lame.

Transition tracks haven’t been used in NLEs for years. Do you understand the concept of having handles for your clips?

Hi Tom….sure but transition tracks allowed you far more control and oftentimes you could skip the extra step. You could turn them on and off as needed…saved a ton of time. Anyway my quicktimes have lots of real estate for in’s and out’s, they are not short little clips and I still have trouble getting FCP to add the fades and dissolves.
