  • How to add borders to avoid overscan to an already cropped video?

Posted by Jaanus Henno on January 14, 2012 at 9:19 am

    Hi!

I’m preparing a dvd, pal and 4:3 format, and I would like to add borders to avoid overscan, but I already have the video cropped in Vegas and in some places cropping is keyframed. So I cannot figure out how to simply add borders with some other settings.

And how much should they be (average)?

    Thanks.

[Jaanus Henno] “So I cannot figure out how to simply add borders with some other settings.”

You can just add a new track on top of all others and create any border you want.

They shouldn’t be at all (i.e., you should not be adding a border because of overscan because some TV’s won’t overscan at all). Every TV is different so it’s not something you can deal with. If you’d like you can add a 10% border but there is no guarantee. You need to make sure that you leave enough room when you shoot the footage.

Ok, thanks. I’ll go without the borders then. And I guess those old crt tv’s are quite rare now, so better leave it as it is.
