How to add a scrolling Text Upwards or Downwards
Hi friends,
I want to have a scrolling text from bottom to top or vice versa. I know there is “Credit Roll”, but don’t want to use it, because I cannot have transparency with it. What I mean is, I want to have the background transparent so that the rolling titles go over my background video. Also, with the credit roll, I can’t put the key frames. In the credit roll, we don’t see the tabs like “Effects”, “Placement” and the “Properties” tab is limited compared to a normal “Simple Text”.I tried to insert a text media and went to “Pan/crop” tried to move the screen up or down, I couldn’t do it. But I can do horizontal left and right hence the text moves left to right or viceversa. But I want to have the text move up / down.
Any pointers to a tutorial video or steps to do this, highly appreciated.

Sure you can. In fact, Vegas comes installed with a couple Credit Roll presets with transparent backgrounds. The background color (and transparency) is set on the Styles tab.

On the left side of your Pan / Crop window is a column of buttons. The bottom one toggles the type of movement that is allowed. It sounds like you currently have movement set to Move in X Only. click that button until its tooltip says Move Freely.
Anyhow, the correct way to do scrolling — if you want to use the standard text generator — is to use the Placement tab. At the beginning of the keyframe timeline, move your text to the bottom of the window. Then set a keyframe at the end of the keyframe timeline, and there move the text to the top of the window.

Thanks Rob. My bad eyes. I didn’t see the credit roll on transparent just besides the one on black.
As you guessed right, on my pan/crop window, Move X Only was selected. Later I changed it to Move both X and Y directions, now I can drag the pan in all directions. Problem solved. Thanks a bunch.
