how to achieve this ubiquitous transition
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on August 19, 2013 at 8:33 pmI’m looking for a way to achieve the transition I’ll describe as “very fast pan” from clip A to clip B.
I’m sure you’ve seen it. it’s like a fast motion blur as if the camera was panned very quickly.
Is there a plugin or is can this be done with native Vegas Pro?
PS. I don’t have footage of a fast pan, it must be done in post. Thanks for any tips,
GGilles

August 19, 2013 at 9:56 pmI believe they call this a swish or whip pan.
Try a Google for “whip OR swish pan transition Vegas” or
“whip OR swish pan Vegas”Here is one link from the results
Thread linkBoris has a plugin to do this. With a bit of work you can get an effect you might be happy with straight from Vegas.

August 19, 2013 at 10:28 pmThanks for this Norman. I was looking for a free plugin. A colleague of mine has one for Premiere.
Wishful thinking for Vegas. The article you supplied is quite good but a bit time consuming.
Thanks for the link though.

August 20, 2013 at 3:10 pmIf your Version of Vegas is one that was bundled with New Blue Titler Pro, then you might try the Smear transition included with that product.
It is not intended to create a swish pan effect, but it is similar in some aspects and it is FREE.

I had it and wasn’t aware of it. Not bad at all and easy to implement. It’ll do the trick.
Cheers,Gilles
