    hi all

i am trying to achieve an effect …
the concept is that i hav a statue rendered in 3d max..

this is the link to the video file…

    ” target=”_blank”>https://rapidshare.de/files/3130953/statue_rotate.avi.html

(for video scroll down , click free and wait for 15 seconds or so)

as u can see, it has a camera movement rotating around the statue almost 360 degrees

what i am planning to do is
i want it to appear in 3d space ..ie, i dont want a flat background for this …
    1. can u tell me what can be done to achieve a 3d space effect

what i am thinking is …
make some text layers named statue in 3d space and rotate it according to the camera motion around the statue

    something like this ..
    check this link

    ” target=”_blank”>https://rapidshare.de/files/3131121/sample_3d_space.avi.html

    is it achievable using ae

    2. if i use the text layers how can i achieve this effect ??? ie how to set the text layers in 3d space ???

    3. i tried applying fe cylinder and cc cylinder to the text layer so that i can rotate it in ae…. but the problem is when i keep the statue (tga sequence) in the comp below the text, some part of the text which is supposed to be on the backside of the statue also comes in the front.. if i decide to mask it .. it will be very difficult as the statue’s camera motion is about 360 degree.. so how can i tweak this ???

    can anyone help me
    please

    thanx in advance

    Hi A,

I can’t see the videos (the codec you used doesn’t exist on the mac I believe)

The main thing is getting the right camera-positions out of your 3D programme. Don’t know which app you used, but for some there are plugins to get the data out.
Then it’s just a question of placing the Text-layers in 3D space and they will whirl by in the correct perspective. (please read the manual for that stuff, questions like: “how to set the text layers in 3d space” are just too basic to be handled here.)

If you do decide to fake it, there’s an option in CC Sphere to render only the inside of the sphere, If you make it big enough (more than fullscreen) , that might do the trick, But the perspective will probab. give it away.

If you don’t find a plugin to extract your 3d camera, and if you didn’t use too many keyframes, perhaps you can copy the camera movement by hand ?

    Hi there,
Yeah the vids didn’t play on my system either, just a rendered black frame for the length of the comp.
I am on a pc with most of the standard codecs installed (at least the popular ones anyhow including Divx).

Since we have talked about this before, do you have a reason why you don’t do your Background in Max? Is this just an exercise to try and do it in AE or is something in Max not giving you what you want?

As far as adding the text in AE and needing it to look layered, If you add the text as layers, you will need to split them up into duplicates. When a word is in front of the statue, make it higher in the AE layer stack. Then before that word makes it to the back of the statue, split the layer to another layer and put this below the statue layer in the layer stack. So it will have the illusion of going in front, then behind it.

I have no idea what’s going on, since I too couldn’t see your files. The least you could do is to save them with a neutral CoDec. Other than that I can’t imagine why you would want to do something in 3D space in AE that you couldn’t do in MAX? Your workflow seems awkward while an obvious solution is right there in front of your nose: map an animated texture on geometry in MAX. The only problem I see is matching up your comps so the perfectly fit the mapping coordinates.

i could see your video…(PC) standard codecs..few other div-x etc.
But it was like less than a second, starts then ends, of some random arabic israley or something logo…no idea whats goin on. Was so short i couldnt even scroll back and forward through it. just random frames when i hit pause.

i think as most other dudes comps (PC n Mac) have told you…..try grabbin a decent longer example, standard codec..and shoot in on over again.

From the look of your second example (I’m seeing your download avi’s fine) you might want to see Ayato’s #29, 3D space:

    https://www.ayatoweb.com/ae_tips_e/ae29_e.html

But to answer you question on positioning your text in 3D space, try:

Window>Cylinder Creator Lite (the layers must have the 3D box checked or it’s grayed out).

If your version of AE doesn’t have Cylinder Creator Lite (I think most do) go to Digital Anarchy.
This throws lots of layers up in 3D with lots of control.
The whole text layer will be flat, not curved, but arranged in a clyinder around the statue, so it might be better to keep your text layers smaller. If you’re having trouble seeing you cylinder of text go to Window>Workspace>Two Comp Views, with one on Custom View One. Good luck.
