Hi all – newbie video guy here. I’m a musician trying to make content and music vids for my band on the cheap.

I dig the look of this video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmjjr2IXt8M

I see that it’s 24fps, but looks like the actual apparent frame rate is 12fps because every adjacent frame is identical.

That part is easy; I can shoot at double speed and slow the frame rate, or just do in FCPX. Many ways to achieve the frame rate I want ultimately.

The other thing i notice is that it seems like sometimes the light balance, or camera setting changes between frames. I can achieve this if I shoot a bunch of pictures in sports mode on my sony a6500, but it seems like a laborious way to shoot a whole music video. Any idea if there’s some kind of plugin that achieves this, or some other shortcut?

I also dig the drawn-in animation. Any ideas what programs ppl use to do this? Is animation these days as laborious as I imagine, drawing things in frame by frame?

Thanks all! Apologies if this is like a beginner asking how to paint the mona lisa, haha.

    Geoff

Could all be done in FCPX and Motion. I’d look for some plugins of animated stuff, there’s a bunch of it around. A lot of masking, some tracking, but all doable in FCPX and Motion. And some special color grading for stylized looks, too. Not something that I could explain in a forum post. Email me if you want, benb at bbalser dot you know what. Things like the eyes and stuff could very easily be done with PaintX from Coremelt. The snake and spiders I’d look for some pre-animated images to composite in. You may need to find an animator to do it for you, maybe. Just to get them drawn out. Some “stutter” effects from Motion. Could be done, a lot of work, but you’ll not do it all from a simple plugin.

Thanks Ben! Ended up going a different direction for this, but I’ll keep this in mind for the future. Appreciate your offering to help offline, too; I may take you up on that!
