Hey guys, I’m a 3D modeller who recently invested in AI because of a certain plugin that can import 3D .obj files. This opens up a bright new world to me.

I’m getting my head around AE fairly well so far, but I’m stumped on what is probably the easiest thing of all: good fades/transitions.

When it comes to making a good transition between two objects, I, well, suck.

Below is a VERY rough draft of what I’m working on. The opening frames show a 3D model that I created in Zbrush that I’m projecting onto the canvas as a 2D sketch.

I would like to know how to make the 2D sketch get sucked into the lens flair, and not just fade out. Also, how can I make I the canvas fade smoother, and is there any effect that will let me rip it apart as it fades/shrinks? I know about Pixelstorm, but I’m having trouble keyframing effects like those, sadly.

I know I’m knew here, but I promise to pay it forward once I get my head wrapped around all these new concepts.

Thank you so much for any insights!

If you make the lens flare increase in size so it can cover up the image that would help cover up the image more. Take a look at this video I did with Lens Flares to get an idea of what I’m talking about:

Also, if you can afford it, Video Copilot’s Optical Flares is awesome!

Hope this is what you are looking for. Best of luck.

    Thanks Stephen, I’ll try that.

I actually do have most of Andrew’s products, as well as a lot of Red Giant tools, and I did use one of his flairs in that shot, it just doesn’t show very much. I reworked the shot, and I think I’m using his glorious flairs better now.
