  • How to Access Contextual Menus with a Wacom

Posted by Lillian Young on October 1, 2010 at 12:46 am

I’m using a Wacom Cintique, trying to follow along with a Motion tutorial, and got stuck at the point where I had to drag a clip onto the main window where I should see a drop-down contextual menu.

I don’t have nor own a mouse at home nor at work, and I have searched the web for the answer but cannot find it. I even programmed a button on my Wacom to simulate the right-click button. That failed.

Does anyone know how to access the contextual menu using a Wacom tablet?

Using: Motion 4, Mac OS X (Leopard, not Snow Leopard)

You do the same thing you would do with the mouse, it’s just tougher because you have to hold the cursor completely still for the contextual menu to appear.

I am holding the pen completely still. I tried dragging a psd file into the window three ways:

Dragging and pressing the pen onto the tablet screen

Dragging and holding the (programmed) right-click button on the pen

Dragging and holding the (programmed) middle-click button on the pen

I know it’s hard to help with this online because I can’t demonstrate how I’m trying it, so I thank you in advance.

I don’t know what to tell you. I use the Wacom Intuos 3, and simply dragging and holding does the trick. It’s no different than a mouse. My only suggestion is to look in the tablet’s preferences to make sure there isn’t something there that’s preventing it from working (not likely, but it’s worth a look).
