    Hi-

I often see people sample a short piece of a project and render at different settings. I tried this last night on a 3 second clip, and the first render took 20 minutes. Changes to the allocated cores and RAM were made and the next render occurred in 6 seconds! I changed back to the original settings and I achieved 6 seconds once again. Do I need to erase the disk cache or something?

    Thanks.

Yes, you need to clear your caches (Edit > Purge) for performance tests like this to be valid. But you certainly don’t want to clear your cache during real work, since the whole point is that it speeds things up by preventing re-rendering.
