I thought this would be pretty easy. I have a picture of a pear. I brought it in as a background and traced it. I then put an extrude on it so I have a flat shape of a pear with some extruded depth.

My thought was that I would throw the same pear image back on it as a texture and it would more or less fit. Nope! I have been trying for two hours to figure out how to put that pear texture back on the geometry.

Been trying to scale and move the texture in texture mode but that seems to make everything worse. I bet this IS very easy to do and I am to much of a noob to figure it out. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

you can usually use Tags/Fit to Object, Fit To Image to adapt an image to geometry but that works without the alpha, the extra image outside the alpha boundaries will throw that off. It will probably be necessary to use the controls in the Texture Tag to get it to match like you want. Make sure Tile is unchecked then use Length U/V and Offset U/V to move the image where you need it to be. Judging by your image you will likely have to increase Length U and adjust Offset U to get it placed, the V looks pretty close already and should only require minor tweaking.

Yeah I guess there is no EASY way. I actually ended up modeling the pear shape alittle to get it to fit as well as your suggestions regarding the tag. Still cant get the stem to fit but here is kind of what I ended up with…

But I am going to try a few other ways. I projected it frontally and I cant seem to get access to the sides of the extrude to texture them differently.

    Thanks!

if you want to texture the extrude sides differently use the default selections built in. R1, R2 give access to the ’rounding’ of the extrude (the fillet) and C1, C2 give access to the caps. Doing it that way you would want to put the pear on the cap(s) (and perhaps the fillet/rounding if necessary) and use a texture with no Selection for the sides (that’s just the way it works)

Yeah I was just making a mistake on the materials for the bevel. That got fixed!
