How should I color correct my movie if I want to be able to make changes later?
I’m done with a 23 minute doc in FCP 7. I want to hand it to a colorist for a day to make it that much better.
I found one guy who I thought was gonna work within FCP 7, but he wants the XML to work in Davinci. Problem is i want to be able to potentially change subtitles (for distribution in a different country) or to be able to make a shorter version out of it (to pitch to web channels), and I want the corrections made in FCP 7 so I can do that.
i figure my options are:
1 – Find a colorist who works in FCP 7
2 – Have it done in Davinci and if i need changes made for another version, find someone to work a day on it to make those changes.i prefer the flexibility of #1. I don’t know however if professional color correction can be done in FCP 7 and/or if I’m just being stupid here. I’m used to being a one man band so maybe i’m just not good at how to work with others.
Thoughts? Should I just fine a colorist to work within FCP 7? I want color correction, not color grading. It’s a doc where I’m not really messing with the look of the clips.
