how much motion blur is correct?
So here’s my question: I have some text that I’m applying some simple motion to in fcp. It just scrolls across the screen. I know that it appear more fluid if I slap on some motion blur to the text, but how much should i set it for? How can i tell?

I’d suggest you simply experiment viewing the results on a video monitor.
