Everyone’s opinion is different when it comes to memory, but I’m picking up a quad-core g5 very soon, and the general rule of thumb with standard g5’s was 2 gigs per processor.
My 1.8g5 runs well with 2.5 gigs of ram, but its just too slow anymore for motion graphics. Still good for SD editing.

Any advice for the quad? 8gigs is a lot — and it’ll probably go over the price of the entire computer. And has anyone used the new(er) ram that is electronically protected vs the standard type of ram? Is that just a bunch of melarchy or should I get the electronically protected ram if I’m putting in <= 8 gigs of ram? I do AE/C4D work... Nicholas Toth Freelance Animator nicholastoth.com
