I wonder how he created the “extruded” 3d shapes and them masked them at an angle.

Well, if you did want to create something like this in AE, you should check out this tutorial:

This is something you can do without plugins, but if you are willing to buy a plugin try Zaxwerks. -

January 22, 2007 at 5:51 pmyeah, that’s the same one I posted. One thing you might want to try if you don’t want the beveled look is just making all the layers behind the first one a darker color of your choice to create that solid shadow effect.
