how is this done? (newbie question)
Posted by Toni Skinner on April 9, 2011 at 8:14 pmHi Everyone!
My 10yr old daughter has been plugging away for quite a while now with Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD v9. She has figured out how to do some really amazing stuff with the software for a person of such a young age but is having a very hard time figuring out how to do this from 0:40 – 0:57:

Can anyone help her learn the name of this technique and how to do it?
Thank you all so very much ahead of time for any help you can offer.

April 9, 2011 at 9:16 pmAt least in regular Vegas there is a “TV Simulator” FX plugin that will do that. Just play with the Vertical Sync adjustment.
If this is in the Movie Studio version I do not know.

April 9, 2011 at 10:14 pmYep, as Joe said, you just go to TV Simulator in videofx.
Drop the TV Look preset on the desired video and set the
vertical sync slider to about 0.5000 and you are good to go.Steve Rhoden

April 10, 2011 at 1:18 amJoe, I can’t thank you enough. My daughter read your instructions and was so happy to find that it worked perfectly on her version of Vegas (she had been banging her head on her desk for at least 3 hours this morning trying to figure it out on her own). Finally, she was able to finish her video today that she’s entering in a contest. WooHoo! Thanks soooooooooo much once again!
Steve, thanks to you as well for confirming Joe’s suggestion. My daughter was thrilled that the “Cow Leader” had written a response to her question. 🙂
Maybe someday she’ll overcome her shyness enough to ask her own questions and to thank you herself.
Have a truly spectacular evening!

April 10, 2011 at 3:21 pmHi Steve,
I had to ask her permission this morning when she woke up and she doesn’t want me to share her video. I don’t understand why she’s so very, very shy about her work because I think it’s spectacular. But I have to respect her wishes.
It makes me wonder if many filmmakers are shy at heart? Is filmmaking a way of expressing oneself – which we all have a desire to do – in a non-threatening way by hiding onself behind the media?
I don’t have the answers to these questions although I wish I did. My daughter is very talented in my opinion, especially taking into account how very young she is.
Anyway, she told me to tell you: “I’m really, really sorry!” (very sad face)
Thanks for taking an interest though. Hopefully in the future she’ll ease up on herself a little bit and build more confidence – she certainly has ever right to be confident about her work in my opinion!

April 12, 2011 at 1:25 am(SMILE)….Take in mind that she is fairly young Toni
and her shy factor will soon pass.
Tell her that i would really love to see her video and dont
be shy (Yes, Filmakers do have a degree of shyness regarding
their work, not knowing if viewers will love or hate it).Steve Rhoden
