  • How is CS4’s HVCHD support preforming?

I’m looking to upgrade to CS4 to edit my m2ts files native. I don’t want to compress them every time to edit.

However I have been reading a lot of bad comments on CS4’s HVCHD capabilities. Most of these were when it first came out, I see on adobes website that they have released several updates including updates on HVCHD support.

I was wondering if any of you could tell me firsthand how it was doing? I’m mostly concerned with premiere and after effects capabilities.

    Thanks in advance!

This is my guess as to why many people are having issues.

Most AVCHD camcorders are lower end units and I can hardly see someone who just spent $600.00 on a camera, also spending $2500.00 and up on a new computer alone.

Yet, AVCHD is also one of the most demanding formats in terms of processing and a stable system is expensive, something they don’t tell you on the packaging.

I edited a couple of AVCHD timelines on a solid i7 system with no issues, but I can tell you, looking at the system performance, that it was already getting up there.

After Effects is going to be even more demanding…

    I’m upgrading to windows 7, i’m staying 32 bit. I’m getting:

    An I7 quadcore
    8 Gig’s of Ram
A video Card recommended by adobe, havn’t picked yet

Do you think that would be sufficient?

Yes, but definitely install a 64 bit OS.

Otherwise you will be limited to less than 4 gigs of RAM, and you will not be able to upgrade to CS5 from what we can tell right now.

That also made me think about something else, all our plugins will need a 64 bits upgrade for CS5, I wonder how well that’s going to pan out…

Thanks for the tip! Yeah, I can’t imagine it only being 64 bit, like you said a lot of plug ins would have to become upgraded. But maybe adobe has something in mind to still incorporate non 64 bit plug ins to keep them working.
