  • How I do select/isolate an area at a composition for applying effects?

Posted by Kabey1 on September 2, 2007 at 9:15 am

    Hi,

My questions goes like this: How do I select/isolate an area at a composition or for applying effects?

For example, if I have some movie with a moon at the upper right corner, and I want to apply some effects to that moon only leaving the rest of the composition as it is. I tried using masks but it didn’t work.

This is quite urgent.. Any suggestions?

    Thanks alot

Duplicate the layer, apply your effects, then use a mask/s to isolate the appropriate area. Depending which effects you apply, you may need to precompose the duplicate layer before masking.

Did you try applying the effect to an adjustment layer above the footage, then masking the adjustment layer?

Along this line, can you create the adjustment layer over just a portion of the composition, and if so, how? Are there some keystrokes or commands like the “b” and “n” to set the composition area?

    Thanks for any incite.

You could trim the adjustment layer, like any layer …
