February 14, 2006 at 8:22 pm[Chris Figat] “apple has nothing to do with it (other than the fact that they apparently own the patent to the concept”
Um, that IS the point. Apple doesn’t only own the patent, they regularly fund and/or purchase these innovative techno-experiments in order to capitalize on their real-world use. With the fact that Apple has been innovating computers since their creation, I’d be surprised if they don’t find some means of integrating this into home-based computer control systems or the UltiMac system, basically a computer that can run your home electronics and so on.
I knew that after seeing Minority Report (and Red Planet before) that it wouldn’t be long before someone tried to make that touch-tech a reality. Can’t wait to make coffee from the shower or wash my car from the comfort of my “big chair”.

February 14, 2006 at 8:25 pmI have multi screens at sigragh (SP?) but they use a laser grid the surface of a display to detect the location of the fingers not sensing technology under the display. In the video there is a OSX like dock on the top of that screen. But it is way cool. thanks for the post.

February 14, 2006 at 9:01 pmMostly it’s just cool. But there are obvious implications for designers and production artists should this technology ever reach mainstream. Just imagine how much quicker your workflow will become using something like this!

February 14, 2006 at 9:38 pmok, wow, we weere shown this like a week ago in my film class, and YES that is an apple dock on the top of the screan, right where every one has been bitching for it.
Apple does own it and are developing, and yes, three psychics are included with your purchase and they come with their very own odly lit pool to float in, the wood balls are for sale seperatly
for those who are totaly clue less, that was a minority report refrence.

poor bill gates, just one more mac item to add to his collection, sitting next to all his complimentary ipods and his new pentium macbook, (if you didn’t know, jobs and fellow higher ups send bill gates all their new gadgets to piss him off,

February 14, 2006 at 10:19 pmI hadn’t seen any connection to apple and this other than mention of the patent, the way i’d seen it on a bunch of sites was “look at what apple did” which didn’t seem to be the case. if it is i stand corrected.

February 15, 2006 at 12:44 pmCharlie,
You are the man, man. Thank you, Charlie.
I’ve missed playing with Fling the Cow. It disappeared from the Net for a while. There used to be a site for it at flingthecow.com but the traffic got so high that they pulled the plug. It’s nice that someone has it live again.

February 15, 2006 at 1:00 pmI have gotten into the 400s a few times but usually I get into the 300s.
Cowdog is the master though, and has scored perfect scores on a few occasions. I think it has something to do with his paws — although he’d argue that it’s the beer that keeps him loose and his reactions more fluid.

February 16, 2006 at 1:55 amNah, Apple more than likely didn’t develop it as you see it, but I liken Apple’s ability to dream up crazy and cool ideas to those of Leonardo da Vinci. The funding for such a “toy” would be Apple’s tell-tale signature…which I’d bet is more closely related to the truth that what any of us may have heard.

February 16, 2006 at 3:26 pmGotcha. i’d love to be a fly on the wall for some of these conversations…
“so can you guys figure out a bunch of applications to use on a touchscreen with multiple input points? just something cool, we’ll fund it…” 🙂
