I think another quote from the BBC PR was that they found that the editors impartial eye was good for a production so they won’t be axed. Preditors are too much in love with their material to be objective. Personaly the day I became a professional was the day when I recognised that some of my work was crap and must hit the cutting room floor. A great editor friend of mine used to say to rookie directors “careful if you carry on with your idea then i’ll do it and then you will be in the s***. Film editors unite – sanity will prevail.

    Hey Alex,
You address some very valid points. I certainly don’t think Avid sucks (PPro OTOH…), and there are some very nice features that I miss in FCP. Sorta like edit & Avid…Now that you’re in the Avid world, don’t you think that Avid is a superior EDITING solution to edit*? So while it’s still easy to miss edit’s robust undo history & global search, etc, for pure editing, Avid IMHO is just superior to edit. And while I realize you’re still getting your head around the Avid fx workflow, it also is really quite powerful once you’ve “gotten it”. Reading the manual helps.

Well…that’s sort of how I now feel about FCP vs. Avid – I think FCP’s simply becoming a superior editing solution (I realize it’s a little unseemly to spout this on this forum – sorry). FCP’s multicam has some snags, but it also feels more versatile and much less rigid than Avid’s. I didn’t mind Avid’s modal nature, but it’s nice to get back to the more contextual workflow we had in edit.

Still, there are things in Avid I enjoy, and it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world WHEN I get back on one.
