  • How do you view a time lapse clip without rendering it?

I have 18 minutes of footage that I need to run as a 3 second clip. I don’t know how to shoot specifically for time lapse so I figured I can do in on FCP.
The only way I know how to do this is to push up the percent. Converting 18 minutes to 3 seconds takes a lot of rendering and it would take a few hours.

Does anybody know of a way that I can view the 3 second clip in the timeline without rendering it?

you could always hand trim it, figure out after how many frame you have to cut the sequence up to get it, and do it that way, cut out a frame, move to teh next frame, cut that our and shift+delete the footage before, and continue and i don’t think it would take all that much rendering would it?

shortening 18min to 3sec takes a lot of rendering? Really? It shouldn’t. You are only rendering 3 seconds. I find that making footage slow motion takes longer than timelapse, as you are rendering more footage.

well I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong then because when I try to render the clip it estimates the time at over an hour.
    How would you do it?
