I have downloaded the trial version of Magic Bullet Instant HD and am trying to use it with FCP. i am following the tutorial to the letter, and the open timline seems to me getting in the way. I am building my source and master sequences. I have also initially set up the timeline to DVCPRO HD720 24p.

When I import and try to drop the DV 24p file on the timeline, FCP says I don’t have the correct setting and wants to set them for me. If I say no, I get DV, it I say yes, I get an instant upconvert to HD.

Something isn’t right. You have to nest the source into the master sequence, but if I tell FCP change the sequence to match the clip, I am stuck in DV. If not, I am already in HD. Either way, I can’t find my answer in the tutorials and unless i am doing something wrong, I may have to upconvert my clips in AE CS4, which would take an extra step.

Any advice on this one. Were the tutorials created back when FCP didn’t have the open timeline?

I gave up with instant HD and used compressor. Instant HD looked horrible via after effects and compressor took 480 30p to DCVCPRO HD720 60p very nicely. I drop a clip shot at 720 in the timeline and added my upconverted clip and it was very hard to tell which clip was which.

I think I will stay with compressor.
