How do you use EX3 footage with Avid? Down convert HD to SD?
Posted by Milton Hockman on October 30, 2009 at 2:14 amjust shot 1080i with EX3. Rewrapped the clips to MXF and imported them. They look horrible! I have to change settings to 1080i in the sequence to look good.
How do I get this footage to SD to edit with???

October 30, 2009 at 2:41 pmChange your sequence back to SD, choose the clips you want and transcode them to your desired codec.

November 2, 2009 at 5:24 pmI don’t know why your HD footage would look “horrible” in a 30i format timeline within an HD project. Make sure you’re viewing your sequence at full resolution; my Avid defaults to half resolution for HD projects.
But you asked how to “get the footage to SD” to edit. One workflow (at least with P2 which I shoot HD on) is to transcode the clips within the Avid. But you have to change the format of your HD project to 30i to get the SD transcode options. Not “export”, transcode.

November 2, 2009 at 6:29 pmwhen the timeline is in HD mode it looks great! but i am not working that way. I need to work SD. if i change it to SD the footage looks degraded motion artifacts.
i used the software that came with the camera EZ CLip Browser to convert the clips via the export to AAF or MXF, and imported to avid. Still look bad. Seems like it wants the timeline to be HD not SD.
