  • How do you prevent cloth self-collision?

    Posted by Tom on May 10, 2009 at 6:09 pm

    I have tried everything I can think of but I can not figure out
    how to prevent cloth from colliding with itself or other cloth objects.

    Anyone have experience with this?

    I can send/post a C4D file with an example if needed.

    Answer (R11)

    Cloth->Expert->Self Collision (check)

    Cloth->Expert->Sub Sampling
    Highly dependent upon cloth parameters!

    It is dependent on the actual mesh. With cloth collision Tri-poly and N-gons are extremely difficult to perdict movement. Its also important to keep the polygons similar in size or the collision tend to flicker.
    The EPS size is going to a large factor and its a good idea to play with it. A good placeto start is by measureing the distance between the points of the smallest polygon.

    The tutorial on CMIVFX (not free) is really good and explains all the options very well.
    The help in the manual is really good too.
