  • How do you keep transitions from spilling over to layers below?

I have a couple of clips and titles that I tried putting some transitions on but they end up making all of the video clips below do the same transition or effect. In example I have a title I made in photoshop that I want to Zoom blur in/out, but ends up making the video clip on the main storyline Zoom blur with it. Anyway to avoid this?

Yeah, some of the transitions will affect layers below them. Here’s how you can use them for titles and other overlays.

Select the Zoom Blur transition, right click and choose: Open Copy in Motion.

When Motion opens, deactivate the drop zone layer called Transition B.

Save As: Call the new transition Zoom Blur OUT for Titles, or something. Save it to the same category: Blurs.

Back in FCPX, apply the Zoom Blur OUT for Titles onto the end of your title and it should work as needed.

    Couple of caveats:

This new transition only works for flyouts. If you want to Zoom Blur IN as well, you need to create another copy where you deactivate the Transition A layer and not Transition B.

Also, you will continue to have this Zoom Blur Copy transition in your effects browser unless you delete it manually. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I don’t like to have multiple copies of the same transition lying around. To delete it, go to your Movies folder on your system drive. Then navigate to Motion Templates/Transitions/Blurs and there you can delete the Copy project. You’ll also see your modified project there in case you ever want to get rid of it later.

    Hope this helps.

I believe I am having this same issue, and the solution didnt work for me. Or maybe I am having a different issue.

I have an interview on white that a light stand was visible in the corner, simple solution was to cover it with white solid, but now transitioning to that interviews shows the line.

    does anyone have a solution?
