March 13, 2006 at 11:34 amThere is no direct MPEG 2 encoder in the Quicktime Export in FCP. You can export directly to Compressor and then encode an MPEG 2 in Compressor. Or you could export to a “by reference” (smaller file size) or “self contained” (larger file size) Quicktime movie and then use Compressor or some other MPEG 2 encoder such as Squeeze.
Best of luck

March 14, 2006 at 3:53 amI also have the MPEG 2 export option in FCP5 with QT7.0.2. But i think the reason I still have it is that I hid my 6.5 Quicktime app when i installed QT7 and then dropped it back in the apps folder afterwords. Not sure if this is why I still have it, but I prefer it over doing the compressor route.
I have not been able to fix my Batch Monitor. Compressor is fine, but as soon as I submit the batch the batch window is empty but the batch is actually encoding. There is no way for me to see what is happening. I have even reinstalled the entire Pro Studio package and it didn’t fix it. Compressor is useless to me and I loathe the interface. I believe too many users defend the app, but it is one that I wish Apple would rewrite…
So for now I enjoy exporting straight to MPEG 2 from the timeline, but not everybody has it…and I don’t exactly know why I have it!
