    Hey fellow cows,

I was wondering how to do a certain effect in photoshop. I saw, quickly, how a digital photographer did it but he went too fast for me to follow.

Anyway, you have a standard picture of let’s say a headshot and you want to add a softness or a glow to everything but the eyes, lips…

    How is that done?

I know it involves another layer or matte, but I don’t know the process.

    Thanks in advance
    Sam

    Try this

Duplicate the layer, select the lips and eyes as you like. Make sure it is a selection (Marching ants) and click on the mask button at the bottom of the layer pallete. You can soften the edges around the selection by using the blur filter on the mask. (best hide the original layer while doing this so you see what your doing).

Go back to the original layer and use the Hue/Saturation tool to lighten and increase the saturation of the image, You might also blur it slightly

See if that is the effect your looking for.
