How do you create black boxes behind subtitles?

I think I may give Boris RED a try. I haven’t had much luck with Pro Type Titler in Vegas.

Thanks, I’ve tried the Pro Type Titler which works I guess, but it’s so fiddly when it comes to positioning the text on the screen and nudging those sliders so that the text sits properly is a pain – a centre bottom option would make life a lot simpler; I guess this particular program wasn’t designed for subtitles.
