  • how do you add a logo?

Posted by Graham Wellington on May 3, 2007 at 10:12 pm

I’m trying to add a logo to my video in after effects but can’t seem to change the duration.

I add the .bmp file using File > Import > File…

Then I drag the image down to my timeline and set its location in the composition window.

The problem is the duration is only 10 seconds and I can’t expand it out further using the mouse and arrows.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

After Effects > Preferences > Import

Set import time to whatever time you choose or length of comp.

In your AE preferences there’s a tab called “Import”. Make sure “Length of Composition” is selected. You may have to delete & reimport your logo.

I went into preferences > import , and “length of composition” was already selected. Even after deleting and reloading it still did not work.

I went back and converted the .bmp to a .psd and now it imports with the correct duration.

When doing the .psd file import there was a choice to import as a “composition” rather than “footage”. I chose composition to see if it would make any difference. Now the logo was given a correct duration.

Will I be forced now to convert everything to .psd files? I had everything BMPs because I was using virtual dub to add logos before.

The trick was to uncheck “BMP sequence” when importing a .bmp file.

But either way, my logo’s white lettering 255 255 255 is coming out a dullish gray. In VirtualDub the same logo came out bright white just as it looked originally.

Any idea what would be causing this?

It sounds like you are in 3D, and the lights are not bright enough, or you need to increase the diffuse light setting of the material.

Also, you may want to be careful to keep the logo white “video legal” if you plan to show it on screens other than your computer. There are tools to help in effects / video / broadcast safe, and in the levels adjustments. I think there was a tutorial on this too.
