how do they do this?
Posted by Gilles Gagnon on October 14, 2010 at 1:53 amDoes anyone know if this can be done in Vegas? Plugin?
have a look at these videos: https://animoto.com/showcase#
or… which software can allow me to do this.
I have a client for which i’m doing a “slideshow” and this would be great!
thanks,
Gilles

October 14, 2010 at 2:28 amThe only thing I own that I’m sure can do that is IClone.

October 14, 2010 at 3:03 amGilles, I trust that you realize that this is a “they do it for you” fee-based service.
You supply the images and or video and the music (copyright-free or pick from their selection) and wait for them to produce the video for you.
There’s a FAQ on the site at https://help.animoto.com/home that should answer your questions. -

With time and experimenting, I’m sure you could come up with your own format as nice as the one you’ve seen.

October 14, 2010 at 4:11 amThese types of services are starting to take off, so much so a recent contest I entered specified automated entries will be disqualified.
I’ve had people cry when the see what I do with their images, I think I’m still safe… for now:-)
Just because you can doesn’t mean you should.

October 14, 2010 at 4:11 amThis is quite easy in Vegas:
It looks as they used picture in picture from plug in from newblu effects.
However, Gaussian Blur the the back ground image and reduce opacity or desaturate just a bit.
Lay two tracks of the foreground image and enlarge the image of the track just behind the top image desaturate and adjust opacity to make it look like a shadow.
Play with motion tracking and keyframes. Effect complete with music.

October 14, 2010 at 11:12 amHi Mike,
Yes I knew it’s an automated service.
I looked at the FAQ, they tell you how to use the service but don’t “reveal their secret” 🙂

October 14, 2010 at 11:16 amThanks to everyone for the responses.
iclone does seem interesting and does much more than what I’m looking for.
In Vegas, can I move from one image to the next (pan)as if the images were layed out on a table and I was moving the camera from one to the ohter?

There is such a variety in those videos that it’s hard to say. Some of the wedding ones looked like they use the 3D transitions from New Blue FX (lots of flying boxes and stuff like 3D Transform and 3D Explosions). Lots of this can be done in Vegas. In fact, since Vegas has 3D Track Motion I would say that most of it can be done right inside of Vegas Pro.

October 14, 2010 at 3:58 pmThanks John,
I’ll have to play around with Vegas’ 3D. Could you use that to pan from one image to the next?

Yes, absolutely. In fact VASST demoed a new tool that does this at NAB this year. It will probably be released in the near future. 😉
