This is a screen grab from one of my favorite studios: “101%”.

I like their take on a somewhat over used effect:
    The Animated Stroke.

But how did they do it?

I’ve tried Trapcodes 3D Stroke, Write-On, and even Per-Character animation using key framed full stops (periods) following an arched path.

I like how the stroke animates additional balls (instead of just stretching or moving them) and tapers the ends.

The only way I can think of doing it would be to use Per-Character Animation and change the font size for each full stop. Blech…

    Any thoughts would be great.

You can do the with 3D stroke, with “advanced>adjust step” set to a really high value.

This effect can be done easily in cinema 4d from maxon and then imported into after effects.

it involves animating along a spline path using a duplicated sphere with the taper settings adjusted at each end.

3D Stroke was used here. You just have to adjust the step settings. You can also adjust things like Size Over Life to get the tapers.
