  • How do I…any suggestions…tutorials? (camera 360 pan, realistic movement)

    So I’m in an after effects beginners class and our assignment was to create a Calder-esque mobile. Last week was our intorduction to 3D. I’ve already created my version of a working mobile which will be more than adequate for my class assignment, but I was wondering if there were any tutorials to take it a step further. you know, use this assignment as a vehicle to learn a little more about AE.
    i firstly had in mind;
    1. an easy way to do a 360 camera pan around the mobile that goes smooth (using the handles seem to be a major pain)
    2. a way to make these geometric shapes look and move more realistic.
    3. any good resource or tutorial that might be relevant
    thanks
    je

    The easiest way to do a 360 pan is REEEEALY easy. You’ll love this little tip and want to procreate with me, that’s how cool it is.

    In your composition create a camera.
    Now create a null; make it a 3d layer.
    Parent your camera to the null.
    Animate a 360 rotation of the null’s y axis.
    Dance with joy.

    This is the best way to work with a camera in AE, you just move the null around and the camera follows it. You can still animate the camera, to make it move in and out, to look away, and to do other things.

    The “Great” stands for “Not-So-Great”
