  • How do i varispeed audio? (‘tape-stop’ effect)

Posted by Russ Hurley on July 25, 2009 at 4:39 pm

When slowing down video in Vegas, the usual thing that happens to the audio is that the timing of the audio is adjusted automatically. A time-stretch calculation is carried out and the audio retains time, and is slowed down as well as retaining its pitch.

However, when i slow down my clips, (or speed them up) i don’t want this to happen – i want the pitch of the audio to change.

Of course, i can use the +/- keys to play around with the audio, but this does not give the effect of audio slowing down.

    Anyone know a solution???

I would be curious to know how to emulate a ‘tape – stop’ effect if anyone knows…

    Peace

When you increase (or decrease) the speed of the audio and you don’t want to keep the pitch, right-click on the clip with the increased (or reduced) speed, select PROPERTIES and in the tab AUDIO EVENT select lock to stretch.

What do you mean with ‘tape-stop’ effect?

Yea, you want the Tape Stop VST plug-in. This is all it does but it does it oh so well. Just Google “tape stop vst” and you’ll find info about it. Here is a link to the download page from the author’s web site.
