How do I use a matte from AE?
Folks I am perplexed having tried variations of alpha settings and transfer modes. Someone built a matte for me to reveal an image or footage in a flip animation. Think of it like literally flipping a card over from one side to the next.
I have three elements:
The background quicktime movie which flips between two sides.
The matte which is green and animated the same as the background layer
My footage (or still).Can someone explain how to properly layer these and which alpha handling/transfer mode combination to use to make this work?

Figure it out. Didn’t know that once I used the Stencil Alpha on the matte (top layer) on the image below, I then had to take those two layers and make them a compound clip for the matte to work on my third (bottom) layer. I can’t explain how this is working yet, but it is.

Did you get a luma matte with varying shades of gray? Stencil luma would work for that. Here’s another trick if you don’t want to compound. Put those layers UNDER/BELOW the background layer, and for the background layer, choose the composite mode “behind.” It will put that layer behind everything else. But it won’t be affected by the stencil because it’s above the stencil in the sequence. Freaky.
