  • How do I uncrumple paper?

Posted by Hilary Tsai on June 21, 2024 at 6:54 am

    I’m following this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ4K-lhHBrU&list=PLZHZaDxrTmxQ2JQAY1jbDSRJYGzepCy9m

for crumpled paper using a sphere with a soft body tag and a sphere with a collider body that scales downward so that the paper crumbles with it. I’m actually trying to uncrumple paper, but reversing the sphere scale keyframes do not work. My paper just starts off crumpled, and then appears to become larger but still crumpled with time. How do I rig this so that my paper uncrumples correctly?

    Thanks you for any advice

    Hi Hilary,

Suppose you took the same steps to reverse the animation as in the tutorial below. In that case, before reversing the timing you should bake the dynamic tag to keyframe the movement, you could easily do that with Point cache tag (I put the link below) and then the keyframe reversing will work for you.

I hope this is useful to you.

Hi Kouraib, thank you for your answer! I tried to reply yesterday but creative cow keeps deleting it or something.

I tried caching and reversing the animation, but what happens is that the crumpled up ball stays the same throughout the whole animation instead of unfolding. I will keep looking for solutions, but I appreciate your suggestion!
