  • How do I render a Quicktime movie

I have a .mov file, that I’m finished working on in After Effects..

I want to render it to Quicktime again, but I can’t find it anywhere… and when I export to .avi, the file size is like 10 times higher.

How do I render to Quicktime, and which settings should I use??

Use the render queue. Check the help.

The settings depend on the usage of the rendered file:
    – will it play back on hard drive, web, tape, DVD, TV?
    – are you giving it to an editor? If so, which system?

Thanks.. The composition that I have made have to be rendered, so I can edit it in Final Cut Pro. Therefore I want to export as quicktime movie. What are the best settings. It has to look like the logged clips inside Final Cut Pro – the clips from my PD 170 camera…

Just to let you know, that provided the information I needed.

If your PD 170 camera is a DV camera, then you should:

    1) use a comp that matches the DV preset. To do this, either make a new comp with that preset, or drag any imported footage onto the “new comp” button at the bottom of the project window. It’s the button that doesn’t look like anything.
    2) Select composition>make movie.
    3) render settings: Best settings.
    4) Output module: DV NTSC (I’m assuming NTSC) 48 Khz.

Now AE is a very complex program that doesn’t do anyone any favours. It does exactly what you ask and doesn’t hold a newcomer’s hand. So you might get into trouble, and if you do, check the AE help then come back here.
