  • How do I prevent Vegas from stretching my AVI video?

    Hi,

I have a video that is stretched every time I render. The project is 720×480.

If I render the AVI with Template: NTSC DV, which is Uncompressed, it doesn’t stretch it. Output size is set to 720×480. The resulting video, according to Media Player Classic, shows video size as 720×540 – and it looks right, even though that’s not the setting I chose. (And the “Stretch video to fill output…” box is NOT checked.)

However, if I use xVid to compress it, and set Frame Size: 720×480, it comes out stretched, and is 720×480. If I set the output size to Project Size, it still comes out 720×480. If I use a CUSTOM SIZE of __720x540__ , which I assume is the correct size, since it looks right at this size, 724 x 544 !!!! And I can’t get it NOT to do that.

Can anyone help me? I’ve rendered the first 2 min. for hours now, trying to get it NOT to stretch. And maybe someone can explain why my project, at 720×480, renders at 720×540, when I don’t tell it to do that – and it looks right at that ratio.

    Thanks!

What is the pixel/aspect ratio (PAR) of your footage. And what is the PAR of your project? And the PAR of your rendering settings?

PAR of Project: 0.9091 (NTSC DV)
    PAR of render: 0.9091

The project contains still photos and videos. The videos PAR is 1.2121 (NTSC DV Widescreen).

Is that a clue? What do I do about it?

With your help, I was able to render correctly. I reset the Project PAR to be the same ratio as the videos inside it. Then when I render, I set the PAR to 1.0.

    Thank you!
