  • how do I prevent this video corruption?

Posted by Gilles Gagnon on August 20, 2013 at 1:52 am

    I hope someone can assist.

Ever since moving to SVP 12, at times when I view footage on the timeline, artifacts (frames) from clip X will appear in the middle of clip A!

If I render, the “corruption” is seen there as well, I can’t produce a good video output.

Other time, it’ll be a partial frame, like half, from another clip which is located somewhere on the timeline, that will appear in some “random” place on my video.

This is critical as I can’t render/deliver my projects to my clients.
Hoping someone has a magical solution.

I have a solution, But its not magical.
After you finish editing and ready to render, you
simply restart Vegas, reload your project and render out.
You’ll have perfect renders, no artifacts or misplaced frames
whatsoever. I have been rendering like this for years, easily
has become second nature for me.

Vegasaur has an audit feature that may catch this. But it looks for event problems because there are no clips on the timeline.

I’ve never seen the problem you describe – do you have GPU support turned off?

Vegasaur audit feature will not help the issue Stephen,
i know specifically the issue he describes and know of
users who has the same issue, i myself in the past…
Its particularly weird to figure out, because some users
has it while others dont and varies with different computer
    systems.
But one thing i know, its a memory issue that comes and
    goes in a weird manner.

    Thank you both.

Yes I do have GPU turned on. From what I gather from you Steve, this won’t help though. I will give it a try nevertheless.

I will try the close/restart Vegas and report back. It’s currently happening on a project. It’s very inconvenient though as I cant get a clear preview of what my work looks like. I even tried a RAM preview of a troublesome section… problem appeared there as well.

PS. my apologies for using the term “clip” erroneously in previous posts. I meant to say “event”. Good catch.

    Disable the GPU also…

All I can say is that I have had numerous audio/video issues after rendering with SVP12. My video output skips. On my last project V12, the events had to be copied in SVP11, and then I used the Vasst Ultimate S tool to copy my multicam markers. I have stuck with SVP11.

    Reporting back:

As Steve noted, closing Vegas and re-opened, and … turned off the video preview GPU… and it worked.
I then turned video preview GPU back on… so far so good.

Obviously a bug in Vegas. One should not have to close/open.
I noticed other settings in the prefs of video preview options, like “wait for vertical sync”. I wonder if tweaking some of these other settings could have a positive impact.

No they wont Gilles, leave those as they are. Yes i know, you
shouldnt have to close then re-open Vegas to have clean
renders, but thats how it is sometimes.
I do exactly that when i do all my renders, whether i have this
same issue or not.. Same way i close After Effects when im
done compositing, then re-open and render.
I want no memory issues or lag creeping in any of my final renders.

    Got it!
Thanks Steven. I’ll leave the other settings as is.

Do you render with GPU on?
Do you have the corruption when you sometime preview, as I do?

No, i dont use GPU. Dont like it. Its integration is too fickle
and has too many variables with this card and that software,
etc, etc…. Im in editing heaven and stress free using mostly
    CPU processing.
