  • How do I place a PiP in several different places in Video Track 2 ?

Posted by Dave Gaham on April 10, 2009 at 4:03 am

    Hi

I put a PiP (Picture in Picture) in video track 2 on the ” Left side ” then a short time later wanted to put another opposite on the ” Right side ” but instead it went to the “Left side” like the previous PiP which I did not want

I can put it in a different Track but as there are quite a few I realise there must be a way but somehow I can’t find it in the manual or even on a search here

Does anyone know how to place several PiP in different spots on the same Video Track ?

Thanks in advance from Dave G

I don’t believe you can do that. I don’t have the Studio version but understand that it is limited to 4 video tracks. If you want PiPs (more that 4) to appear at the same time you will need to have the ‘full’ version with unlimited tracks. Or use a rather unwieldy work around: That would be to get the first 4 where you want them and render to a lossless format, bring that video back into vegas and you can add 4 more. Of course you would not have control over the first 4 at that point. I don’t believe there is any way you can do it on one track.

Sorry you misunderstood my question I have vegas 7 not studio

I want a PiP to appear in only video track 2 at different times right side then left side then top then bottom

But the PiP’s all appear in exactly the same place !

I assume I have somehow accidently made it a default setting for that track and don’t know and can’t find how to undo whatever I did

in Premiere it is very easy to place single or multiple PiP where ever I wanted

Vegas is a differnet kettle of fish I’m trying to learn ….. please be patient with me !!!

First, are you making the PiP via event pan and crop or track motion?

Use Track Motion to create the PIPs and then use keyframes in track motion to control where the PIP is located at any point in time. You might want to click the link under my name and look at the first 3 issues of my newsletters which deal with creating PIPs in detail.

Thanks Edward I will try out your answer and let you know
also will check out your newsletter PiP tips

I hope it has a section covering the different way NLE software do it
I had assumed it was done the same as in Premiere …… my mistake !!

Someone else had a similar type of problem although different but of the same effect being applied to all clips in the same video track

I was thinking we had both somehow made a parent/child track I saw mentioned in the manual for compositing around page 280
I have a Sony tutorial dvd set somewhere for Vegas 6 and was going to go through that in search of an answer but now I will focus on the Keyframe like you said

    Ah Edward,
You jumped in ahead before I could get his answer as to how he was making his PiP. I felt the problem was in his use or non-use of keyframes but was trying to lead him to it. Your way was quicker.
