  • How do I move my FCP scratch disk?

Posted by Andrew Crittenden on May 15, 2010 at 2:37 am

I just purchased a 3 TB drive, and I want to move all my render files etc. from past projects on to the new drive. I’ve tried to do something similar in the past, but when I opened an FCP file, it spent forever looking for the various render files, etc.

How can I do this cleanly, so when I open up a project I won’t run into the same problem? Somebody once told me I needed to do it project by project. If so, how?

    Thanks,

    Andy

Use the move function in media manager.

Use Carbon Copy Cloner to copy all of the data from your old scratch disk to the new one, then unplug the old disk & rename the new one with exactly the same name as the old one.

You are better off deleting your render files. Set your scratch disk then re render.

Steve is right, render files copied or moved seldom actually work and wind up sitting on your new drive taking up space, and meanwhile, you have to render again anyway.

Cloning is a much slower process than rendering, so why take the time?
