Maybe Someone could help me out, or at least point me in the right direction of a few tutorials or step by step blogs which would explain how this is done.

I have a few ideas myself, but i want to make sure i am going about it the right way. For example i was going to use an image and essentially create a animated stroke effect like i would with a text animation styroke effect (which i believe there is a tutorial how to do so on here), But i was wondering if there was a different method to accomplish this.

I would be using After Effects.

I appreciate anyone who could assist me in this, in anyway they can

    thank you

    Hello Rick,

The character Thena’s weapon effect exists in 3D space. The concept is built around splines that animate to produce the weapon shapes. Right off the top of my mind, you could recreate the weaponry using splines with volume (sweep nurbs curve).

To simulate the weapon reveal effects, you could easily animate the start and end of the sweep curve. After the animation has been created, you might add a glow on top as a composite to create the shine look.

However, you should be aware that this is accomplished using both a 3D engine (Houdini, Cinema 4D) and a compositing tool (nuke or AE).

Using Ae simply allows you to work in a 2D space, which may be sufficient for your needs. Have fun while designing. I would love to see you end results.×400.jpg?rect=25,0,711,400&w=700&h=394&dpr=2

forgive me, but what are splines? and sweep nurbs curve?

    just a little confused.

i was thinking i would use a 3d model, but i have never used a 3d model before, i have element 3d in after effects, and i once have cinema 4d, but never found use for it until today.

is there any kind of reference tutorials you might know of that would help me figure this one out?
