    hi all.

i need to create the effect of a blue light traveling over a static text shot – when a phone number is read out by the voice over.

and can’t for the life of me work out how to do it?

its literally a three second section where i need to switch on this effect once when the VO kicks in.

is there anyway to do this simply in Motion?

    Rubberducker,

There are a few ways of doing this

here is the harder but cheaper way

    1) Duplicate the text layer
    2) move the duplicate above the original and apply a glow filter
    3) draw a shape equal to that of the size you want highlighed – add a blur if you want a soft edge
    4) Add an image mask to the dupicate layer and drop the shape into the well

or if you would like a 15 day free trial of my Volumetrix filter that also does glow write-ons & highlights go here

We are working on one now 🙂

Problem is because we are using new technology from Apple, we end up finding all the bugs too 🙁
Some of the things we would like to do that are a great idea and seem easy are limited by how FxPlug is implemented.

If you want to know more, come and say hello on the Noise Industries at NAB
