How do I make my movie sound equal throughout the entire film
I have put a bunch of clips together and is wondering how to make it where all the clips will have the same sound…. Thanks

Same sound? That’s a broad question. If you mean the same volume, right click on each audio clip and normalize each to the same level. This will get you alot closer. You can also right click in the track header of the audio track and add a volume envelope, where you can add points to the volume line and adjust spicific areas.

You can also use the Track Compressor to try and smooth out the sound after Normalizing as Danny suggested. There is a free utility called Levalator which will level out sounds as well but it has to be used outside of Vegas. It is meant for dialog so I’m not sure how it will work in your case.

Okay, let me better explain the situation. I am creating a documentary out of pictures and different video clips from all sorts of sources. Some of these video clips are extremely low and some are extremely high. One video clip goes as far as to rattle the heck out of my sub woofer which is not good as you already know. The program I am using is Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum. I looked for the normalize button but can’t seem to find it.
What is the easiest way to make every video clip sound on the same level? Is there any application that can do this with ease? Thanks for your response….

Right-click the audio event and select Switches | Normalize. That will make the loudest sounds in each clip the same. The rest of the clips could still be too low if the dynamic range is too great. You can always split the clips and normalize each section separately.

Okay I have the program Levelator, but when I attemp to render an audio file off a movie clip, it wont let me drag it into the program levelator. Can someone give me step by step instructions. Thank you so much…..I am using Sony Vegas HD Platinum 10.0

What did you render the audio as? Try rendering to a WAV file.
