How do I grind my audio to a halt?
Looking for a smooth way to ramp my audio down in a single clip from normal to full stop, preferably with pitch drop, over about a 5-second duration in FCP. Or should I export the audio and do this elsewhere, then bring it back in?

Pro Tools, even the LE version has a plug in available called Vari-FI, part of the D-FI plug in set. It does exactly what you want. Highlight the region you want slowed down or sped up, goto the audiosuite menu and voila!. It sounds very nice, like stopping an old analog reel to reel tape transport.
The plugins may be available on other systems but I’m not 100% positive.

If you have access to an audio system that uses VST plugins, Tape Stop is a free plug available (you will find it and a few others via Google)
FCP is not VST plugin compatible so you will have to go out to another system to do this.
