how do I get an alpha channel after placing and image in text

I am getting handy with CC 2014 and am creating logos. I mapped an image on text and want the text to have an alpha channel so I can lay it into a background. What is the next step or what layer can I convert to an alpha channel?

Couple ways of going about this:
Put your image layer above your text layer, then Opt/Alt-click between the two layers to make a clipping group. Place both layers in a layer group to move them together while still be able to adjust them separately.
If you really want to go the alpha route, Cmd/Ctrl-click on your text thumbnail to build a selection, then select your image layer and click on the layer mask button. Much less flexible that way, though, as any changes you make to the text will require you to re-do the layer mask.
