How do I fade?
Posted by Tyler Jensen on September 4, 2012 at 8:59 pmI don’t know anything about motion. All I want to do is have a box highlight certain areas of a video. I have a box that comes in and leaves when I want it to. I just need it to fade in and out instead of just showing up and vanishing. This is Motion 5

September 4, 2012 at 9:01 pmThe easiest way to do it is to use a behavior. Go to the Add Behavior icon. Go to Basic Motion, Fade in/Fade out.
Hope this helps best of luck.

September 4, 2012 at 9:55 pmIn Motion 5 Behaviors are applied to objects in one of the following ways:
Dragging a behavior to an object in the Canvas, Layers list, or Timeline
To apply a behavior to an object in the Timeline, drag the behavior to the object in the Timeline layers list or the Timeline track area.
Note: It is usually easier to drag a behavior to a camera or light in the Layers list or Timeline than to such objects in the Canvas.
Selecting an object, selecting a behavior in the Library, and then clicking the Apply button in the preview area
Selecting an object, and then choosing a behavior from the Add Behavior pop-up menu in the toolbar
Clicking the pop-up menu arrow at the right of a parameter’s row in the Inspector, then choosing a Parameter behavior from the menu
Control-clicking a parameter of an object (including the parameters of other behaviors), and choosing a Parameter behavior from the shortcut menu

January 10, 2017 at 6:42 amThere used to be a gear in Motion to add a behavior . . . is it still there? If so . . . I can’t find it!

January 10, 2017 at 7:29 pmDon’t see it . . . .
1 minute into the movie you posted, above the picture, on top of Motion . . . is a strip with a Behavior Gear in the center I’m missing.
Perhaps there?
I’ve attached 2 screenshots, one showing the strip missing and one the old gear that was easy to find and use and was open by default.
(Not sure how these embed codes work, I’ve been allowed to simply upload an image on other sites without inserting code.)
