  • How do i export DSLR 1920×1080 25p sequence as Uncompressed AVI or ProRes Quicktime file??????

Posted by Thomas Barnes on February 14, 2012 at 6:38 am

I’m running on a Mac, and using Adobe Production Premium CS5.5

I shot on a Canon 60D DSLR, so the sequence I’m talking about is made up of H.264 files. My client wants me to deliver an Uncompressed AVI or ProRes Quicktime file, but I have NO IDEA how to achieve that in either Premiere Pro’s export>media section, or Adobe Media Encoder, anyone know what my options are?

I’ve tried exporting as H.264 Blu-Ray, and it just spits out three files (.m4v, .m4v.xmpses & .wav) which don’t open (apart from the .wav) on my system.

I’ve also looked for ‘Microsoft Uncompressed AVI’ as an export option in Media Encoder, but it’s not there – must only be in previous versions??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It’s pretty straight forward really. Just chose your sequence, and go to File–>Export–>Media…

That will launch an “Export Settings” dialog box. This is where you chose your settings. For “Format” you can choose “QuickTime.” Just below that you’ll notice an “Output Name” area. If you click on the name it will prompt you to chose a new save location as well as what you want to call the file. You can leave all this if you want, just make sure you now where your file is going.

Then look down below the summary section and you’ll see 4 tabs – Filters, Video, Audio, and FTP. Under the “Video” tab you can set the video codec (i.e. ProRes), the resolution (1280×720, 1920×1080, etc.) as well as the frame rate and field order. Under the Audio tab you can chose what codec you want to use there, if any.

Once that’s done, chose “Export” at the bottom of the dialog box and it’ll make a QuickTime movie file based on those settings.

    Thanks Ryan,

I’ve gone through all that, and so far managed to find Apple Intermediate Codec (which might suit for now, gotta wait to hear what the client says) however I can’t find the ‘ProRes’ codec? I have selected Quicktime.

Here’s a screenshot of the list of options I have:

If you have never installed FCP 7 on that system then you wouldnt have Prores installed. The rest are standard codecs that are installed with Quicktime.

    Cheers,

How would I go about installing just the ProRes codec? Is there some way of just buying it?

Do you have the ProRes codec installed on your machine? You can follow these steps to install the ProRes codec on your machine: https://blogs.adobe.com/VideoRoad/2011/09/prores-codecs-now-a-free-download.html

Do you have a PC? If so, you can only read ProRes files. You can’t write ProRes files(i.e. make a QuickTime movie. Anyone, please correct me if this is changed!

I think if you just buy the new version of Motion (which is cheaper then FCP XXX) it installs a few of the Prores codecs. But you cant buy them by themselves.
