  • How do I erase markers after tracking?

    Hi,

I am shooting on a DVX-100A in the woods and I need to do hand-held shots that have a JPEG of a person tracked into them. I have tried a few test shots and I’m having a hard time finding anything in the shot to track. Trees and dirt don’t have a lot of definitive edges. So the obvious solution is to set up markers to track. That’s all well and good, but then how do I get rid of the markers in the shot. I should also mention the JPEG will be at 50% opacity, so hiding the markers “behind” the JPEG is not an option.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

There are 2 ways I know how to do this.
    A) Take two shots, the first shot doesnt have the markers in it, the second shot has the markers in them. When you bring them into AE overlap them and remove the markers from the first scene. The second shot (W/O) markers should automatically fill in the gaps. Then apply the motion data to the one without the markers. The only problem with this is they have to be the exact same EVERYTHING in both shots.

    B) Put the marker in the darkest area of the woods (assuming this is a night shot). Light the marker (try to either lighten the whole scene evenly and then level it darker. Or just light the marker) and then in post mask it out. This works cause its pitch black anyways.

i did this once for this video
    https://forums.creativecow.net/readpost/2/906607?

ok, the way i did it was actually very simple, track your marker then create a new white solid and add a circular mask the size of the marker then aplly the traking keyframes to the position of these solid so the white spot is always on top of your marker, then change the original layer track matte to luma inverted matte, now there shoud be a hole in your video, thats ok, duplicate your original video and put it at the bottom of all the layers, now just move its position just a few pixels to any side. tht should do it .
you might want to feather your mask just a little bit.

cheers, hope this can help you, maybe is not the best or the correct wayt to do it, but hey! it worked for me! =)

If your tracking points in the footage then it shouldn’t be too hard to use that same tracking data for a clone paintbrush to get rid of the points. Thats only if a clone will work in your situation. If that sounds like you then I can give you the expression I’ve used for this same task…
